Introducing Telos Biblical Counseling
I have always hated the first day of school. Usually the liturgical flow of each first class followed roughly the same pattern; the teacher introduces himself or herself, some hobbies, maybe even a little educational background and then asks each student to do the same. As an adult, this liturgy of first meeting follows us into every new encounter. “Tell me a little bit about yourself.” might historically be one of the most difficult questions I encounter, but the Lord calls us to do difficult things…and now I have a website to help visitors and those on the fence get a lay of the land.
With that in mind, my name is Kevin Knoer. My family attends and serves at Sacred City Church in Davenport, Iowa (we will be moving into our new building in Bettendorf, Iowa in Fall of 2023). I am married to my wife Trevje and we have the honor and joy of raising her four younger siblings Emma (16), Elijah (9), Joseph (8) and Aubree (3). I received my undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of Iowa in 2017 and recently completed my Master of Arts in Biblical Counseling (MABC) through Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in the early Spring of this year. Since then, I have been pursuing certification as a Biblical Counselor with the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors (ACBC).
At Sacred City we like to say that our mission is to Make Disciples, Plant Churches and Renew our Cities. It is in light of this mission that Telos Biblical Counseling was born. From attending church, leading small groups and serving in our community it has become apparent that people need help. Telos exists to point the weary, the restless, the hurt, the downtrodden, the confused and whoever else will come back to Jesus Christ, the spring of Living Waters (Revelation 21:6). At Telos, we take a unique approach in that we do not appeal to Psychology or behavior modification to bring lasting change to counselees. Instead we believe that Scripture is inerrant, infallible and fully sufficient to speak to the questions, issues and concerns that we all face. While Telos is a separate entity from Sacred City Church, it goes without saying that we have been deeply formed by the faithful teaching of her pastors. Our goal is to see the people of the Quad Cities and beyond discipled into maturity before the Throne of Christ and to be equipped with the tools and principles from the Word of God to disciple others as they have been discipled.
